Our love story
First Meet
August 28, 2013We met the first day of college. Austin came to visit his high school friend Marigrace, who was moving into her new dorm room. Her roommate happened to be Liz!
First Date
September 1, 2013Our first date was completely unintentional. A few days after this first meeting, Liz, her roommate, and Austin were planning on meeting at the Taste of Madison festival on the capitol square. In an effort to set us up, Marigrace was conveniently “sick,” so we ended up going together, just the two of us. Liz was quiet and shy, Austin nervous and talkative. It was a good first date but didn’t create any romance right away. It did, however, launch a close friendship.
Dating
April 7, 2014We were good friends for most of freshman year. It wasn’t until March that Liz worked up the courage to ask Austin out. It took him several weeks to give her a response – which felt like forever to Liz... Finally, Austin agreed, and we have never looked back. We dated all through our undergraduate years and survived a long distance relationship while Liz was studying abroad in Germany for six months and attending law school in Minnesota the past two years.
Enagagement
December 15, 2018Austin managed to completely surprise Liz with an on-one-knee proposal in the Wisconsin Capitol rotunda. This was no easy task since Liz is admittedly a very nosy person. It was the night of the Christmas party for Austin’s company, which is located on the Square just across from the Capitol building. Austin had told Liz they would be taking photos with his co-workers in the Capitol to lure her there for the perfect proposal spot. Liz arrived as the Capitol security was giving the 15-minute warning that the building was about to close. Austin dragged Liz up to the third floor while they “searched” for his coworkers. As we were looking at the beautiful Christmas tree, Austin got down on one knee. He was too nervous to say anything besides that he loved Liz -- and she was too excited to wait for him to put the ring on her finger! Liz took it out of the box and put it on immediately.
Weddding
August 15, 2020We got married during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic and therefore were not able to have a wedding reception. We were lucky to be able to still celebrate our wedding ceremony with friends and family, both in-person and through our livestream.
